On multiple occasions this week, I have heard or read something about the power of your words. Coicidence? No, of course not. God, what are you teaching me this week?
It started on Sunday with a sermon about living healthy and taking care of our bodies. But it was more about knowing and believing the truths that Jesus speaks over us instead of believing the lies that Satan wants us to hear. It continued as I was preparing for college group by reading through The Gospel in 10 Words. The author says "We don't practice righteousness to become God's children; we practice righteousness because we are God's children." We can say that we are righteous because God has already made us righteous. And I find that when I start speaking it aloud, I tend to believe it more. There's just something about saying it outloud that Satan doesn't really like, and I'm really fond of doing things that Satan isn't happy about. :) So then on Tuesday night, we were encouraged to pick a verse for ourselves and starting speaking truth into our lives.
Ephesians 2:10 says "For we are God's masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so that we can do the good things he planned for us long ago."
Definition of masterpiece: an exceptionally good piece of creative work; the best piece of work by a particular artist.
Seriously guys! You and I are the best piece of art that God the Artist has ever created; the most outstanding building that God the Architect has every designed (just to throw that out there). We are exceptionally good! And because of that gift we can do all the good things that He has planned for us.
So then Wednesday at small group, Kate says masterpiece, and this verse hits me in the head again. I am (we are) His masterpiece. And because what the Bible says about God, and about me, is truer than my experiences, I can walk in the knowledge that I am His masterpiece. Even when I'm having a rough day, or a bad hair day (side note: the heat and humidity this week is doing a number on my curls),or I didn't work out when I knew I should have, or I ate junk food when I knew I shouldn't have.
The power of life and death are in the tongue. Just like I have the power to build someone up or tear them down by the words I say, I also have the power to build myself up or tear myself down. So I choose to speak life, and speak the promises that God has for me into my life, instead of speaking death and negativity. And when I hear those negative thoughts, I'm just going to say 'thank you Satan, for trying to mess me up, and trying to make me believe that I'm worthless. But because I know that all you can do is lie, the exact opposite of that statement is true. I am worthy! I am beloved!' Seriously, I know that I'm beloved...forever...I have a tattoo to remind me of that daily!
It's just so good. Thank you Daddy for speaking this over me this week
